ATA (formerly known as Adam Taylor Architecture) is an ADNZ national award winner. ata's ‘Chain Mail’ won the Architectural Designers New Zealand (ADNZ) national award for Residential New Homes 150m2 – 300m2.
The judges described it as a “box on top of a box”. “It has a street elevation that is well composed of spaces that provide access to views and shelter from the harsh climate. The Kaynemaile gives the design a special identity, and the cantilever over the garage entry is well thought out.” Located on a small site in a coastal setting, Adam Taylor has ignored traditional coastal aesthetics, instead the design embraces strong industrial structures and materials. Judges’ went on to say “Recessed decks, cantilevering roofs and projected floor levels make this house a strong spatial composition. Set on a small site, the plan is simple and efficient, yet flexible. Some cladding of the house is brick which provides a soft finish in contrast to the dark painted fibre cement panels elsewhere.”
